Educational Background:
Dr. Dennis McChargue earned his BA in Psychology and Philosophy from The State University of New York at Oswego in 1993. He completed his MA (1993) and PhD (1998) in Clinical Psychology at Oklahoma State University, followed by a clinical internship at the Boston Consortium/Boston VAMC, a National Center for PTSD and Postdoctoral training at the University of Illinois @ Chicago.

Professional Experience:
Dr. McChargue joined the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2005 as a faculty member in the Department of Psychology. He has held various leadership and research positions, including:

  • Co-Director of the Nebraska Internship Consortium in Professional Psychology.
  • Consulting Clinical Director at Houses of Hope Residential Substance Use Treatment Facility.
  • Research Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
  • Health Research Scientist at the Hines VA Medical Center.

Mentorship Philosophy:
Dr. McChargue is committed to fostering growth and autonomy in graduate students pursuing clinical psychology. He believes that initial structure and individualized mentorship are critical to developing students' unique strengths and addressing their challenges. Through gradual exposure to diverse training opportunities, he ensures students feel confident in their abilities and aware of their limitations upon completing their program.
